Global Water Crisis

Overview of the Crisis

1.1. billion people in the world lack access to an "improved" water supply: in other words, 1 in 6 people do not have safe water to drink. Of the 4 billion cases of diarrhea annually, 88% are attributable to unsafe water.

1.8 million people die annually from diarrheal diseases... most of these deaths are in children.

Contaminated drinking water impairs the ability of the body to fight serious diseases, which in turn leads to poor health and lower participation in work, school, and society.

Practical Solutions Provide Hope

There is an urgent need for technology that can deliver safe drinking water to the world's most vulnerable people in a way that is culturally appropriate.

Controlling water quality at the source (pond, river, well) is not effective for households without piped water. The World Health Organization favors Point-of-Use (POU) solutions to purify water after or during transport to the home or workplace.

H20 has been working with partner organizations to create POU solutions that incorporate our bacteria-killing SFB into filter systems for rural households. These systems will benefit human health by avoiding the use of bleach (or other strong chemical disinfectants), while being simple to use and maintain. H20inc's products are long lasting, and require no electric power or piped water source.
